What We Believe

We fully agree with the Baptist Faith and Message (2000).

God.

God is the Creator, Redeemer, Preserver, and Ruler of the universe. He is completely perfect, flawlessly powerful, and knows all things (past, present, and future). He has eternally existed in three distinct personalities: the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. These three are co-equal and are one God.

Genesis 1:1,26,27; 3:22  Leviticus 19:2  Job 37:16  Psalm 90:2  Isaiah 6:8  Isaiah 63:16  Matthew 5:48  Matthew 28:19  II Corinthians 13:14  I Peter 1:2

Man.

Man is made in the spiritual image of God, to be perfect as He is perfect. He is the masterpiece of God’s creation. Ultimately, man is glorify God in everything he does. Man was created to be good, but cannot be, unless regenerated by the Holy Spirit, because he has an attitude of disobedience toward God, which is called “sin.” Sin separates man from God because God is perfect and man is not.

Genesis 1:27  Psalm 8:3-6  Isaiah 43:7, 53:6a, & 59:1-3  Matthew 5:48  Romans 3:23 & 8:15-16  Ephesians 2:10

Jesus Christ.

Jesus Christ is the Son of God (also phrased God the Son) and is equal with God the Father and God the Holy Spirit. Jesus lived a sinless, perfect human life and offered Himself, in obedience to God the Father, as the perfect sacrifice for the sins of all men by dying on a cross. He was raised from the dead after three days to demonstrate His power over sin and death. He ascended to Heaven’s glory and will return again to earth to reign as King above all Kings.

Isaiah 9:6  Matthew 1:22-23  John 1:1-5 & 14:10-30  Romans 1:3-4  I Corinthians 15:3-4  Acts 1:9-11  I Timothy 6:14-15  Titus 2:13  Hebrews 4:14-15

Salvation.

Salvation is a gift from God to man made possible by the person and work of Jesus Christ. There is nothing that any person can do to pay for his sins- no self improvement or good works. The only way to be right with God is to trust that Jesus was God and that His perfect life, work on the cross, and resurrection from the dead is enough to pay the penalty for your sin. Eternal life begins the moment one receives Jesus Christ into his life by faith.

John 1:12 & 14:6  Romans 5:1  Romans 6:23  Galatians 3:26  Ephesians 2:8-9  Titus 3:5

Holy Spirit.

The Holy Spirit is equal with the Father and the Son as God. He is present in the world to make men aware of their need for Jesus Christ. He enters every Christian at the time of salvation and makes them a new creation with new desires. He provides the Christian with power for living, understanding of spiritual truth, and guidance in doing what is right. Every Christian seeks to submit their lives and desires more to Him every day.

John 14:16-17 & 16:7-13  Acts 1:8  I Corinthians 2:12 & 3:16  II Corinthians 3:17 & 5:17  Galatians 5:25  Ephesians 1:13 & 5:18 Titus 3:5

Bible.

The Bible is God’s Word to all men. It was written by human authors under the supernatural guidance of the Holy Spirit. It is the supreme source of truth for Christian beliefs and living. Because it is inspired by God, it is truth without any mixture of error.

Psalm 119:105,160 & 12:6  Proverbs 30:5  II Timothy 1:13 & 3:16-17  II Peter 1:20-21

Church.

In a broad sense, the church is all people that ever put their faith in Jesus ever. The local church is the group of believers that have put their faith in Jesus, and thus been regenerated by the Holy Spirit. Christ is the head, the ultimate authority, and local congregations are led by qualified leaders. The church observes the ordinances (also called sacraments) that Jesus established and the apostles followed. These include the Lord’s Supper (Communion), baptism, and church discipline. Jesus purchased the church with His death. It is on a mission to take glorify God by living uprightly and taking the Good News of salvation to all the world.
